BeckSpecks Day 1 Character Transcripts

These are the transcripts of characters from Legends of Beckinfield—videos they posted on BeckSpecks. Most don’t appear in the novel (a few do). You can use them as scripts to post your own videos in character, mix and match to create new stories, or simply explore what each resident is saying day by day. In this town, secrets don’t stay buried for long.

Character Transcripts - BeckSpecks - Day 1

Rose Branter – “Video One”
"Hi. My name is, um... Rose Branter. Welcome to the Beckinfield Perspectives project. If you live in Beckinfield, please post videos about your life. Thank you."

Lisa Sibbisson

"Hey… um, so I don’t know if anyone’s actually watching this. Posting feels kinda weird, but Rose asked — and she believes in this whole BeckSpecks thing, so yeah… I’m doing it.

Volleyball season is wild right now. We’ve got Clarksville again — we wrecked them last time, and they’re gonna come at us hard. Practices have been tough, but honestly? I love it. When you’re pushing past your limits with people who care as much as you do — that hits. We don’t just play for ourselves. We play for each other. For Beckinfield.

And, uh, I started the day swimming — just me, the water, and that voice like, ‘don’t coast.’ Scholarship or not, I don’t do easy. If I’m not all-in, what’s even the point?

Clarksville’s tough, but we’ve got heart. Beckinfield shows up.

Okay, first post done. Let’s see if this even uploads. Rose… hope this helps."

Kicker Taggart
"Fireflies love me...Almost as much as the football fans in the stands—well, maybe not quite as loud, but close.

I don’t know why, but for some reason, fireflies seem to follow me around and have been a big part of my life. Maybe because I grew up on Hidden Star Lake, and they glow brighter there than anywhere else in town.

I’m going to tell you something I’ve never told anyone. And if anyone makes fun of me for this, I’ll kick your ass. I always wanted a dog, but my stepfather wouldn’t let me have one. One day, when I was a kid, I sat on our pier behind my house late at night and told that secret to a swarm of fireflies. Ever since, they have all but adopted me. They’re around me all the time. I can’t decide if they’re my pets or I belong to them."

Jasper Cantrell
"So, here we are—day one of BeckSpecks. I have to say, this is... something. I was skeptical at first, but I’m already seeing posts rolling in, and it’s incredible. There’s an energy here, something alive. And honestly, Rose? You should be proud. This is your masterpiece in the making.

When I think about what this project could mean for Beckinfield, I can’t help but compare it to Seurat’s paintings—you know, the dots. Every video is like one of those little specks of paint, and together, we’re creating a portrait of this town. A messy, chaotic, beautiful portrait.

It’s funny. I always saw Beckinfield as this sleepy little place, but these stories? They’re proving me wrong. Everyone’s got something to say, something worth hearing. And being part of it? Yeah, that’s something special.

I’m really glad I pitched this to the theater department. Seeing so many of the students jumping in already? It’s awesome. Especially Beth—seeing her post made my night. This is just the start, and I know it’s going to grow into something incredible.

Anyway, I don’t know how many of these I’ll do—I mean, I’m more comfortable playing a character than I am just being myself—but for now, I’m in. This is your vision, Rose. And it’s bigger than any of us realized."

Martin Peters
"Running on fumes right here. Getting this site up and running was no joke, but wow, it’s already buzzing. I’ve been glued to my screen, just watching how many people are posting. It’s... overwhelming. In the best way.

I mean, this was Rose’s vision, right? And seeing it actually happen? It’s incredible. She put so much into this—her ideas, her energy—and now it’s like Beckinfield is coming alive online. People are sharing their stories, their lives... it’s exactly what she wanted.

Honestly, I didn’t think it would take off. But here we are, and it’s amazing. If this is day one, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I should probably get some sleep, but yeah... this is just too cool to step away from. Rose, you did this. This is all you."

Alexa Nevarro
"Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this! BeckSpecks is blowing up, and I’m just now posting? Like, I was literally there when we launched this thing, and I still feel like I’m behind. Rose, I get it—you wanted to see if the buzz would really take off, and wow, did it ever. People are talking about it everywhere, and I’m just sitting here thinking, ‘Why didn’t I post sooner?’ So yeah, consider me officially late to my own party, but don’t worry—I’m about to catch up.

Okay, so first things first: This is amazing. People are sharing their stories, and it’s like this whole new way for all of us to connect. I’m watching these videos, and it feels like I’m getting to know everyone on a whole other level. And you know me—I live for this kind of thing. People, stories, connections? That’s my jam.

Rose, you’re a genius. Seriously, this is such a cool idea, and I am so proud of you. Also, don’t think for a second that I’m not gonna make up for being late. I’ve got so much to say and share—cheer practice, football games, Spirit Week coming up—it’s all going on here. Oh, and if you’re watching this and haven’t posted yet? What are you waiting for? Let’s do this, Beckinfield!"

Mikey (Kicker’s Teammate)
"Okay, so... Kicker practically threatened us so, I guess we’re making videos now. Frankly, for the first time I can remember, he might not be the one actually calling the plays. But who can blame him, right. Anyway, what the hell… So, what do I talk about? Um, girls I’m single and since the football season ended last month…well unexpectedly crashed and burned, that is…I’ve got time to hang until the fall. So hit me up.

I can’t believe, football season’s over. The last one of my life. I’m gonna start working at my father’s bank in the fall. Man, our season started out so strong. Us Fireflies were killing it on the field, but yeah, we kind of fell apart there at the end. As they say, the division F2W. “First to Wurst.” And no one’s really talking about why.

Probably for the best. So now, we sit in the bleachers rooting for the volleyball team, because, well... that’s where Kicker wants to be.
I will admit, it is fun to watch them. Lisa and the gang are brutal competitors, and honestly, they deserve the spotlight more than we did this season…at least at the end. That’s all I’ve got. I gotta do one of these a day? I better find some crap to talk about."

Vincent (Kicker’s Teammate)
"So, Kicker says we have to post something because, I don’t know, it’s ‘important for the team.’ Sure, okay. Let’s talk about the team—The Fireflies. Big hopes, big dreams, and then... big losses. Three in a row to end the season. But hey, at least no one’s pointing fingers. That’s Beckinfield for you. We all just kind of smile, nod, and pretend everything’s fine.

But now it’s volleyball season, and you know what? That’s Lisa’s game. She’s out there killing it, while we sit on the sidelines clapping like supportive little cheerleaders. Which is fine, I guess. At least Lisa’s fun to root for. Unlike Kicker, who’s just using this whole BeckSpecks thing as a way to... oh, wait, he’s going to watch this, isn’t he? Forget I said that. Go team."
